A gamer playing Battlefield 6 Open Beta was left ‘quite shocked’ after their RTX 5090 froze mid-battle before suddenly bursting into flames as a fire started near the motherboard

The first weekend of the Battlefield 6 open beta has come and gone, and more than 500,000 Steam users played without major issues, but one player was left stunned by a particularly dramatic incident.

After a four-year hiatus, the franchise is set to make a triumphant return this October and eager gamers were given the chance to preview the action for the first time over the weekend. However, one player’s fun was cut short when their expensive Zotac RTX 5090 suddenly burst into flames.

The Taiwanese gamer had been playing Battlefield 6 Open Beta when mid-battle, the screen froze, before a fire erupted from the graphics cards PCIe side. Taking to a gaming forum, the gamer, who goes by the name york4517, described what happened.

“On the evening of 8/10, I was bored and wanted to play the Battlefield 6 public beta. When I was halfway through the game, the screen suddenly froze,” they wrote. “The next second, I saw flames and a burning smell coming out of the computer next to the table…”

The player continued: “At the time of the incident, it was observed that the main place where the fire came out was the junction of the graphics card and the motherboard. The fire lasted for about 10 seconds. In fact, the burn was quite serious. Even the water cooling pipes were blackened.

“I was quite shocked at the time, I never thought I would encounter such a thing. I bought the machine as a set from the store, and I will take the whole machine to see how to deal with it later tomorrow.”

The gamer attached several photos showing the charred remains of the RTX 5090. The first weekend of the Battlefield 6 open beta started at 8am UTC on Saturday, August 9 and concluded at 8am UTC on Monday, August 11.

However, those who missed out will get another chance to participate in the action. Weekend 2 of unlimited play time and matches is set to start this week, offering players the chance to trial the game before it launches in October later this year.

Unless EA announces another test, this will be the last chance to play before the games October 10 release. The second weekend of the Battlefield 6 open beta starts at 8am UTC on Thursday, August 14 and will end at 8am UTC on Monday, August 18.

Just like last weekend, anyone who downloads the BF6 Open Beta will be able to log in and enjoy unlimited gameplay until the beta wraps up. The development team will actually permit players to start the beta client before the servers go live, allowing gamers to configure their settings beforehand.
