The mother of 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro claimed her baby was kidnapped last Thursday after she was attacked while changing the baby’s diaper in the parking lot of a Big 5 store in Yucaipa.
Authorities in California have seized a vehicle belonging to the father of a Yucaipa 7-month old baby who was reported missing last week.
The mother of 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro claimed her baby was kidnapped last Thursday after she was attacked while changing the baby’s diaper in the parking lot of a Big 5 store in Yucaipa.
However, on Saturday, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said investigators found several inconsistencies in the mother’s story. Rebecca Haro, the baby’s mother, was “confronted with inconsistencies in her initial statement and declined to continue with the interview,” according to sheriff’s officials.
“At this point in the investigation, investigators are unable to rule out foul play in the disappearance of Emmanuel,” the Sheriff’s Department said.
Rebecca Haro told KTLA last week that she could not remember what happened after she was knocked unconscious.
I was going to get the diaper and somebody said, Hola, and I dont remember anything since, she said. I woke up here on the floor and I didnt see Emmanuel.
Investigators also interviewed several people, including the boy’s father, Jake Haro, who pleaded guilty to willful cruelty to a child following a 2018 arrest, according to Riverside County records.
A spokesperson for the Sheriffs Department told KABC that Jake Haro’s vehicle was seized Tuesday for evidence amid the investigation.
Over the weekend, detectives with K-9 units searched the family’s Cabazon home. As of Tuesday, authorities have not released any description of a suspect and authorities are continuing their search for Emmanuel.
