Dolly Parton has spoken out about how she was ‘crushed’ after The Rolling Stones’ frontman, Mick Jagger, rejected her after she asked him to sing on her first-ever rock album
Country music icon Dolly Parton released her first rock album, Rock Star, in recent years. The album boasts a star-studded lineup including Paul McCartney, Stevie Nicks, and John Fogerty, among other rock legends.
However, one notable absence from the project is Rolling Stones’ frontman Mick Jagger, who declined to participate.
In a resurfaced interview with ET Online, Parton revealed that her late husband, Carl Dean, inspired the album.
She shared, “I did a lot of the songs he loves because he’s a rock ‘n’ roller.”
Despite Jagger’s absence from the album, Parton remains hopeful about future collaborations, admitting she has “always had a crush” on the legendary rocker, reports the Express.
She confessed: “I never got him! But I love Mick Jagger no matter what. I’ll still be runnin’ after him all through the years, because I’ve always had a crush on [him].”
Parton also disclosed that Jagger’s decision not to collaborate on this particular project was due to her song choice.
She explained: “I wanted him to sing on (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction, but he wanted something new and different, which I don’t blame him for.”
Photographer Allan Tannenbaum, who claims to have captured the pair’s first meeting on May 14, 1977, shared his observations with the Daily Mirror.
He recalled: “My guess is it was his first meeting with Dolly because it wasn’t like he was saying, ‘How are you doing?'”.
“I got off the first frame in 10 seconds of her standing next to him and then I said, ‘Can you do something with a little more excitement?’ and she grabbed him and put her arm around his neck.”
He went on to say: “She is not tall – not as tall as Mick (who is five ten to her five feet) – but she pulled him tight and you can see in the picture he’s being squeezed a little bit.”
The photographer also remarked on the photo, saying: “He’s smiling this very sheepish grin and she’s totally beaming ear to ear.”
Parton has been happily married to Carl Dean since 1966, and they renewed their vows on their golden wedding anniversary in 2016. Carl sadly passed away earlier this year.
Parton opened up more about her beloved husband, who died March 3, in an interview with Knox News, part of the USA TODAY Network. The country legend reminisced on Dean’s secret Dollywood visits and revealed that he “suffered a great deal” before his death.
“I’m doing better than I thought I would,” Parton told the newspaper, nearly two weeks after losing her husband. “I’ve been with him 60 years. So, I’m going to have to relearn some of the things that we’ve done. But I’ll keep him always close.”
