California Governor Gavin Newsom sarcastically commended Donald Trump for his ‘great work’ as he blamed the president for PlayStation 5 prices rising by $50 on Thursday
Gavin Newsom has hit out at Donald Trump over the rising cost of PlayStation 5 models as the California Governor told him “great work”.
Sony said on Wednesday that all PS5 models in the US will be $50 more expensive starting on Thursday. The Japanese technology giant cited “a challenging economic environment” as the reason for the price hike in a blog post announcing what they described as a “difficult” decision.
The increased prices come after Trump imposed tariffs on most of the United States’ trading partners, including Japan, leading to fears that costs will rise for thousands of products.
The base model of the PS5 will now cost $499.99 in the US, while the Digital Edition will be priced at $499.99, and the PS5 Pro will cost $749.99.
Taking to X, California Governor Gavin Newsom directly blamed Trump for the PS5 price hike, sarcastically commending the president for his “great work”.
Sharing a link to the news, Newsom wrote: “Great work, @realDonaldTrump!!”
In another post, Newsom shared another article about the PS5 price increase as he wrote: “Donald Trump’s America: Consumer Price Index has risen by 2.7%.
“Prices for takeout and restaurants has surged by 3.9%. Pre-owned cars / trucks price has increased by 4.8%. Electric bills up 10%. John Deere and others have announced layoffs. Companies from Sony to PepsiCo have announced price increases. Great work.”
Newsom’s press office account also took aim at Trump over the news. “In Trumps America, costs keep going up, up, up!” The Governor’s office said.
Newsom’s attack on Trump’s economic policies comes as the governor took his public feud with the president to another level as he began mimicking him on social media. Newsom has been trolling the president by adopting his social media tactics, posting all-caps-laden rants.
“HAS ANYONE NOTICED THAT SINCE I SAID ‘I HATE KID ROCK’ HE’S NO LONGER ‘HOT?’ GCN,” one post reads.
In another, the governor said: “DANA ‘DING DONG’ PERINO (NEVER HEARD OF HER UNTIL TODAY!) IS MELTING DOWN BECAUSE OF ME, GAVIN C. NEWSOM! FOX HATES THAT I AM AMERICAS MOST FAVORITE GOVERNOR (“RATINGS KING”) SAVING AMERICA WHILE TRUMP CANT EVEN CONQUER THE ‘BIG’ STAIRS ON AIR FORCE ONE ANYMORE!!! TRUMP HAS ‘LOST HIS STEP’ AND FOX IS LOSING IT BECAUSE WHEN I TYPE, AMERICA NOW WINS!!! THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER. GCN”.
Reacting to Newsom’s posts, Trump took to Truth Social to hit back at the governor. “Gavin Newscum is way down in the polls,” he fumed.
Trump added: “He is viewed as the man who destroying the once Great State of California. I will safe California!!! President DJT”. Responding to the post, Newsom simply wrote: “Triggered?”
