New England Patriots wide receiver Kendrick Bourne was once left confused at the podium when he was asked by a reporter if he would be willing to give them his wife’s phone number
While he is currently preparing for the upcoming 2025 NFL season, there was a time last year when New England Patriots receiver Kendrick Bourne was left speechless by a reporter who asked for his wife’s number.
Despite two dreadful seasons in 2023 and 2024, which saw New England go 4-13 both years, expectations in Foxborough are high heading into the 2025 season under new head coach Mike Vrabel, who was recently left bloodied after intervening in a training camp bust-up. New England spent big in free agency, bringing in the likes of Milton Williams, Harold Landry, Carlton Davis and Stefon Diggs.
It is hoped the addition of Diggs, who raised eyebrows this offseason with a boat party, will also help Patriots quarterback Drake Maye continue to develop as a passer following his promising rookie season. The 22-year-old threw 15 touchdowns to 10 interceptions, adding another two scores on the ground whilst also throwing for 2,276 yards, 305 of which Bourne accounted for.
Despite his experience, Bourne is battling to make the Patriots 53-man roster. A recent foot injury led to him leaving a practice session during training camp, with Bourne also then missing New England’s 48-18 win over the Washington Commanders in preseason.
“The wide receiver room is in a little bit of a flux,” said Patriots insider Tom Curran on the ‘Patriots Talk’ podcast recently. “To look at Kendrick Bourne, he was a guy who was probably competing for his job and a spot on the roster because he doesnt have special teams (versatility).”
While Bourne may currently have his head down trying to make New England’s roster, there was a time last season when he produced a funny moment while speaking to reporters at the podium.
The 30-year-old was being complimented on his pre-game outfits by reporters, which led to one of them asking for his wife’s number since it was her who was acting as Bourne’s stylist.
“So my wife is actually my stylist,” said Bourne. “She puts it all together for me so she’s doing good. I don’t know what she’s got ready for me, but we’ll see.”
“So every outfit, she’s the one who’s putting it together?” asked reporter Dan Roche, to which Bourne replied: “She’s behind it all.”
“Can I get her number?” asked another reporter, before adding: “In a respectful way for the strictly wardobe part of life?”
While the awkward question could have led to an even more awkward interaction between the reporter in question and Bourne, thankfully, the Patriots receiver saw the lighter side of things.
“Hold on, what do you mean?” laughed Bourne. “What is he asking? What are you asking?”
“He wants her business card,” interjected another reporter. “Ohhh, business card,” said Bourne, adding: “Her Instagram is Vanessa Bourne. Go check her out.”
